Artist Statement

These paintings are about the landscape we experience every day.  Commuting back and forth is a constant, as well as the flowers in gardens.  I seek to show the everyday experience rather than the artificial studio-created painting.

I am typically a representational painter, and these are in that continuum.  There are a few pieces in this show which deviate from what I “saw” when I looked at my subject, often because I wanted to simplify or enjoy some color playfulness. 

Painting in oils is an endless process of learning what can be done with the paint, what should be done with the paint, and what should not be done.  It is also a question of capturing the immediate experience, or a visual image, or both.
